Désirée Heintz is a member of our patent litigation team. Her activities include the representation of international corporations as well as medium-sized companies and start-ups before the District Courts in Germany and before the Unified Patent Court (UPC), the Federal Patent Court, the Federal Supreme Court and the European Patent Office (EPO), including the Boards of Appeal. 

Désirée Heintz has particular experience in the evaluation of standard-essential patents, especially in the field of video coding (H.265/HEVC, H.266/VVC, VP9 and AV1), mobile communications (4G, 5G, etc.) and other (wireless) communication/transmission technologies (DVB-T2, IEEE 802.11ax, etc.). These areas of technology also form a focus of her advice in patent infringement proceedings. As an additional focus, Désirée Heintz is working in the fields of medical and information technology.

In addition to her work in the area of patent infringement proceedings, Désirée Heintz also advises on all aspects of employee invention law. She is co-author of the new edition of the commentary on the law on employee inventions by Boemke/Kursawe. 

She also has extensive experience in the patentability of computer-implemented inventions and business methods, as well as in patent prosecution in the fields of digital semiconductor and memory technology and in the medical field. 

Désirée Heintz was nominated as "Practitioner of the Year in Germany" at the IAM Managing IP Awards 2021 and was honored for the "Impact Case of the Year". She was also named a "Rising Star 2022" by Managing Intellectual Property (MIP) and, according to Handelsblatt/Best Lawyers, is one of Germany's best lawyers 2023 in the field of intellectual property.

She speaks German, English, French, Dutch (basic knowledge) and Spanish (basic knowledge).

CV

Studied physics with a focus on solid state physics and nanophysics at the University of Münster; diploma in nanobiotechnology at the Center for Nanotechnology (CeNTech) and the University of Münster in 2008. 

Research activities at the Hamburg Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory (HASYLAB) at the Deutsches Elektronensynchrotron (DESY) in Hamburg in the field of physical chemistry with a special focus on X-ray crystallography and X-ray spectroscopy to investigate X-ray-induced radiation damage of organic and organometallic substances; doctorate in natural sciences at the Deutsches Elektronensynchrotron and the University of Hamburg in 2012.

Legal training from 2013 to 2016 at Eisenführ Speiser, at the University of Hagen, at a chamber for patent litigation at the Regional Court of Mannheim, at the German Patent and Trademark Office and at the Federal Patent Court, patent assessor exam 2016.

Patent attorney since 2017. After working for two months in the patent department of an international medical technology group, patent attorney at Eisenführ Speiser since 2017.
