The European Patent Office has published the Patent Index for the year 2022. It shows that, despite global uncertainties, the number of patent applications in Europe increased by 2.5% compared to the previous year. This means that after a slight decline in 2020 (-0.6%) and a recovery in 2021 (+4.7%), the number of applications has reached a new high. The most significant growth was in the fields of digital communication, medical technology and computer technology. The five countries with the highest number of applications are still the USA, Germany, Japan, China and France.
